Parents, Not the government, should teach children core Social values

God's word instructs parents to "train" their children and not leave this task to the government, local schools or universities. This command also includes secular social service agencies that all too often support gay rights and the murder of the unborn.

Proverbs are rich and explicit in this directive. For example, "Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching." (Prov 1:8) Again, Proverbs instructs teens and young adults. "Hear, son's, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight." (Prov 4:1) These and many other examples in the Old Testament instruct parents to teach children right from wrong and how to live as members of God's community.

The New Testament is also rich with the same teaching. For examples, Ephesians 6:1-4 commands, Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother so that it may be well with you, and that you may live long on the Earth. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Clearly, parents are commanded to teach their children about the Lord and how to be productive citizens in society. Parents are to care, love and discipline children so they become proper, productive adults.

God word does not allow parents to leave their duty up to government or secular institutions. The Bible is very clear that parents, not the government, must  train, teach and shape children's worldviews.

Our Official Stance:

  • Parents hold the primary responsibility to raise and discipline children. The government should only play a minor or supporting role.
  • Parents have the right to discipline children as they see fit so long as the punishment is not abusive.
  • Parents should have the right and Christian obligation to choose a school/charter school that supports biblical teaching using tax dollars.
  • Christian parents ultimately know what is best for their children regardless of government intrusion, law or secular policies.
